Summary, Evaluation and Application in Educational Technology 1

Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 2:38 AM
SUMMARY

According to St. Thomas Aquinas, education is the advancement of the person to the perfect state of person in the context of virtue. Education is a vehicle or tool which helps in cultivating and improving what we have learned in our homes. In fact, education sustains and adds more meaningful and more rational ideas for us to become more cultured and refined individual. Education is change, education is life.

But with the existence of technology, education becomes more powerful and effective. It enhances the teaching-learning process and helps in facilitating learning. It also makes the learning an active process. Through technology, it improves the student's performance inside the classroom and widens the creativity of the students, heightens their higher order thinking skills, and helps them discover and create meaningful ideas based on what they have read, heard and seen. Educational technology, in addition, consists of reliable techniques or methods that engage in the teaching-learning process such as cognitive learning strategies and critical thinking skills or the so-called HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills.)

EVALUATION
The lesson I love most is Lesson 6: Using and Evaluating Materials.
To ensure effective learning, we should always consider the following guides:

P-prepare yourself
P-prepare your student
P-present the material
F-follow up

Before we enter the classroom, we must be prepare and ready with the materials as well with the lesson. We should be systematic with the educational instructions so that educational objective will be attain. First, prepare yourself. A teacher should have the mastery of the subject matter. He/she should have a wide reservoir of knowledge. He/she knows how to facilitate learning. To do this, he/she should define the objective, choose appropriate materials or methods, choose appropriate experiences, and select materials, equipments and facilities. These strategies will ensure an effective and efficient learning. Secondly, we should prepare our students. Before we begin the discussion, let us start with a motivation or energizer to unlock the difficulties and gain the students confidence and interests. Set class and expectations and learning ends. Third, present the material. Take note, in presenting the materials, it must be appropriate with the age, intelligence, and experience of your students. Also, your materials also contribute meaningful content to the topic under study. It should also help students in constructing new concept and ideas. And lastly, follow up. It is very important to ask questions or administer tests so that you will know if your students learn or not. Asking questions or feed backs is very helpful to the teachers so that remedial measures or actions will be implement immediately.

APPLICATION

As a future teacher, it is effective to have technology as a part of the learning process. But using technology entails a lot of knowledge and mastery so that it will be very useful not only to the teachers but also a blessing to the students. Let us engage our learner in a learning that is different from the past, an active learning. With these technologies, particularly video, computer, audio visual power point, OHP, and even instructional materials provides a vast learning and new experience to the students.

Lesson 9 Teaching with Dramatized Experiences

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 5:50 AM
The lesson focuses on the importance of dramatizing in the teaching-learning process. Dramatized experiences leave an emotional impact to our students in a way that if our discussion is to motivated and inspire them. Using the different types of dramatization such as role-playing, pageants, tableau, pantomine, puppets, and games, our students get attracted, interested, and affected. Let us always put in our mind that our objective is to help our students attain the total learning and to help them develop their personality.
